Help eradicate fruit fly
Fruit fly is a scourge and a much hated pest. Fruit fly attacks fruit and makes it inedible. This is a serious issue for local farmers who grow fruit commercially. If you are a local resident you can help since many of the flies breed in the urban areas. The products used are safe when used as recommended.
Guava and loquat trees are particularly bad. These trees should be removed. This may sound a bit drastic but the fruit flies use these trees as a refuge during the Winter. No guava and loquat and they have nowhere to go and so they die.
Other fruit trees can be kept (pear, citrus, peach, plum, nectarine, grape etc) but you must take steps to control the fruit fly. This is to your benefit since you will end up with edible fruit!
· ü if you do not intend to use the fruit, strip the trees.
· ü continually collect and bury dead and rotting fruit.
· ü place droplets of fruit fly bait on the leaves of each tree weekly.
Flick a paint brush at each tree. Start in September when the petals on the flowers start dropping and carry on until March. Use GF120.
If you have queries or questions contact either Eric Venter on 0224481144 or Martin Jooste on 0224612015. Both of these gentlemen can supply GF120.
