How to get to the Valley

South Africa is good at many things but public transport is not one of them! The Riebeek Valley is no exception. Public transport in the area is not good - although the main railway line from Johannesburg to Cape Town runs through Wellington and Hermon and there are coach services from Cape Town to the north via Malmesbury.

Most people arrive by road. The maps will help you plan your route. To reach the Riebeek Valley from Cape Town airport, drive along the N2 towards Cape Town until you see the turning off to the N7. Turn North (right) and drive (60 kilometres or so) until you reach Malmesbury.  As the road becomes dual carriageway take the first slip road off to the left and turn back under the road on which you have been travelling (into the town). You will see the towering Bokomo silos on your right. Turn left at the second robots and then first right. Then follow the R45/R46. Having driven for about 15 kilometres through rolling wheat fields you drive up Bothmanskloof Pass and through the cutting at the top. A breath taking panoramic view opens out on your left. Wheat fields have disappeared to be replaced by olive groves and vineyards cascading down the mountain slopes. In the background - on the other side of the valley -  towers the Drakenstein range with the even higher Witsenberg mountains behind.   Riebeek Kasteel lies in front of you, Riebeek West 5 kilometres to your left and Hermon 10 kilometres across the valley.
